The Hildene estate in Manchester, Vermont was once the residence of former President Abraham Lincoln?s eldest son, Robert Todd Lincoln, and his family. He bought the 412 acre property in 1902 and started building the mansion immediately.

The 22-room, Georgian revival main house was finished by 1904 and has quickly served as a summer home for the Lincolns afterwards. It continued to be owned by the family for decades, until the last heir died in 1975.

After the last owner?s death, the Friends of Hildene formed and continued to care for and preserve the property. Today, visitors can see all the 22 buildings included in the original estate. The furnishings inside the home are also the Lincoln?s so a lot of history can definitely be found on the site.
