The Atlantic Wildfowl Museum provides information about the area?s wildfowl through its collections and exhibits that feature antique and contemporary decoys that are complemented with descriptions and photos. Extensive amount of information can be learned since the museum covers the wildfowling history of the Back Bay area, its history and wildlife, which are depicted through dioramas.

The Museum is housed in the renovated de Witt Cottage that was bought by the City of Virginia. The Back Bay Wildfowl Guild, a group that spearheaded the establishment of the Museum, developed a storyline and design to convert the structure into a waterfowl museum that also houses its own Gift Shop and home for the Guild.

Today, it features the Main Gallery containing fine decoy carving from Back Bay, Contemporary Section displaying a variety of shorebirds from the Outer Banks, the Carving Room where visitors can watch the resident carvers and their techniques, the Art Gallery, the Edgar T. Brown Virginia Beach History, and many more.
