The Avoca Museum is included in the National Register of Historic Places making it worthwhile to visit when you get to drop by in Altavista. Its home was made right at the evolution of the 20th century that is set in a style that is American Queen Anne. Now it is a grand museum that displays a wide range of artifacts that are all related to the history of the state.

It had its centennial celebration last 2001 and it is open to the public for various museum tours from April to October every year. It is made up of antiques and other memorabilia that tell of the Civil War. It also serves as host to the place?s yearly wine festival.
