Colonial Williamsburg is a historic district that is working hard to preserve and continuously represent Williamsburg, Virginia?s major role in the country?s development and legacy. As it once was the most important locale in the country, it is just necessary to try to keep its heritage intact, even after four centuries.

The Colonial Williamsburg site is comprised of a series of buildings built from 1699 to 1780, when the city was still Virginia?s capital. These structures have been kept and restored to its original states in order to keep the feel of the old Williamsburg.

Visitors can enjoy the different celebrations in the area, as well as the reenactments done regularly and on schedule. The most major event is called the Grand Illumination, which is held annually on the first Sunday of December.
