Montpelier is the home of US President James Madison, also the Father of the Constitution and an American Republic genius. Located in the Blue Ridge Mountains, James Madison devoted his life to democracy and freedom in religion. He was married to the graceful and hospitable Dolley Madison, who was the inspiration for the now popular term "First Lady."

School and public service took Madison away from Montpelier. However, it was said that he returned to his home on four important occassions. The first three years became vital as these are the times when he did much work on the Constitution, Virgina's Declaration of Rights, and other historical achievements. The Last time was when he returned to Montpelier for good.

Currently, the National Trust for Historic Preservation owns the Montpelier. The Montpelier Foundation, Inc heads it operation. It has underwent an architectural restoration
