The Pony Swim and Auction is a yearly event where you see a big round up of ponies all gathered and taken straight from the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge right on the island of Assateague. It is located on the eastern shore of Virginia and it has captured all the interest of many visitors for a good number of years now.

All around you can see firemen volunteers who help organize the ponies on the island. During the last Wednesday of July, they all swim across the channel to the island where they also rest before they get herded down in Main Street and to the carnival grounds. During the last Thursday of the same month, an auction is organized too to sell all the newlyborn foals.
