The Shenandoah Caverns is dubbed as a commercial ?show cave? in Virginia. Discovered in 1884, it became a tourist destination in the early 1920s.
The Shenandoah Caverns is unlike other caves of its sort in a number of ways. For one, it is the only cavern in the state with elevator service. This makes it accessible to visitors on wheelchairs.

Aside from this, although there is a couple of stunning geological formations on site, the one known as the ?bacon formations? are the most special. This is mostly because they look like bacon strips hanging on the cave walls. These have been featured by the National Geographic Magazine in 1964, and the issue of the publication is displayed at the Caverns Museum.
