The North Pacific Railway Museum promotes the historical background of the Toppenish railway. The goal of the museum is to educate new community settlers and visitors about the early railroad transportation that used to carry passengers and cargoes within the community. Most of the artifacts are showcased inside the museum to provide visitors an insight on what the railroad transportation was all about during its early days and its huge contribution to the community and in the United States.

The original railway was built in 1911 and became the main transportation within the community for 50 years. The operation of the railway stopped in 1961 after automobiles, bus and airplanes penetrated the area. Years later, the move to transform the railroad to a museum was opened up after a couple of organizations and railway fans pitched it to the community. After restoring some of the damaged areas of the rail station, it opened as a museum in 1992.

The museum encourages groups of all kind to participate in their educational programs provided by the Yakima Valley Rail and Steam Museum Association. The focus of the educational programs is to provide education among its audience ? particularly the children. These programs range from railroad history, railroad safety or the the infrastructure and operation of the railroad equipment. These guided tours and packages by the museum are available for schools, civic organizations and traveling guests coming in large groups.

The most interesting aspect of the North Pacific Railway Museum is their volunteer program. Whoever is interested to learn more about railroad operations can sign up as a volunteer through the museum?s engineer training program. Volunteers will have an opportunity to become a railroad operator by becoming a brakeman or assume other engineer positions. Aside from that, they will experience becoming a tour guide for children and act as a railroad man.

Other concerns about the museum may visit the North Pacific Railway Museum during operational hours.
