Ranked as the seventh biggest aquarium in America because of its massive attendance of 800,000 visitors per year, the Seattle Aquarium is also one of the largest paid tourist attractions according to Puget Sound. It is a public aquarium that was established on May 20, 1977 by the Department of Parks and Recreation City of Seattle. But in 2010, it was acquired by the Seattle Aquarium Society, a non-profit organization.

A member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums or AZA, the Seattle Aquarium is a major promoter of marine conservation. The Aquarium?s displays, exhibits and programs aim to make every visitor understand how they can help protect and preserve aquatic life.

In 2007, the Seattle Aquarium reopened to the public after a major expansion of an additional 18,000 square feet. They introduced a souvenir shop, the Seattle Aquarium Caf? and two more exhibits.
