Built in 1959 as public events, theatre, meeting and convention center, the Charleston Civic Center is located within the business district of Charleston, West Virginia. It was the result of one of the approved general obligation bonds made by the voting residents of Charleston in 1953. It was initially built with a 6,000-seater arena and the Little Theater, as they call it, which can accommodate 750 people.

After having undergone several expansion and reconstruction projects, the Charleston Civic Center now comprises of 3 major facilities. First off is the Little Theater, then, the Civic Center Coliseum and the Grand Hall or the Charleston Convention Center. It is one of the choice venues for several yearly events such as the West Virginia International Auto Show, West Virginia Association of Fairs & Festivals Conference, the West Virginia Sports Show, the Capital City Arts & Crafts Fair and other ceremonies hosted by local schools.
