The city of Huntington in West Virginia has quite a collection of houses that date from the 19th century. And probably one of the most interesting of these is the Madie Carroll House, not only for its great architecture, but also for its history.

According to a popular legend, James Gallaher, the first owner of the home, had the whole house transported from Ohio via boat. On the other hand, Mary Carroll, the wife of the second owner of the house is said to have saved it from being destroyed when she barricaded herself in here during the America Civil War.

Today, the Madie Carroll House not only serves as a historical site, but also a popular venue for those wanting to hold special events.
