The Old Main Bethany College is one of first buildings built in the Bethany College Campus area. It was constructed in 1858 ? 1871 by the architect James Keys Wilson. The Old Main in Bethany College is one of the finest and first examples of gothic architecture. Influenced by James Renwick, Wilson most likely modeled his design from Renwick?s Smithsonian Museum.

Old Main includes a large Commencement Hall that is used for large functions such as conventions, concerts, and other gatherings. It also houses the Kirkpatrick Hall, home to the life sciences branch, faculty offices, a conference room, student library, and many other important rooms and offices. The Old Main is famous and has contributed many things to the history of education. John F. Kennedy spoke at its Commencement Hall in 1960 during his presidential campaign.
