Apostle Islands National Lakeshore is an amazing panoramic view located at Bayfield, northern Winconsin. This lake was recognized in 1970 as a 20-island area. The first island was added in 1986, and to date, Apostle Islands is comprised of 21 islands, making it a national treasure and highly protected by the government.

The Islands encompass a land area of 108 square miles or 281 square meters, excluding water alone. Apostle Islands is also closer to the Bayfield Peninsula, where most of the commercial activities take place. Highlights include high cliffs of reddish standstone and ice formations during the winter while the beaches are noted for being cold, yet, very clear.

The name of was given by a 17th-century Jesuit missionaries for the Twelve Apostles. Old relics within the Apostle Islands are reserved for historical purposes; like the 19th century brownstone quarries situated within the three islands and the Manitou Island Fish Camp ? an area used years ago by commercial fishermen for temporary housing. It is also the sanctuary of a dozen wildlife but rarely seen creatures, such as the white-tailed deer, black bears, river otters, beavers, as well as different bird species like the cormorants, ducks, gulls, bald eagles and loons. Remains of the old-grown trees like white pine, cedar and birch are also visible within the area.

Overall, the islands are fitting for family picnics and recreations, water outdoor activities for small and big groups, and much more. Water sports and boat tours are very rampant, especially during the summer. Local visitors may enjoy diving or kayaking at the Little Sand Bay while boat excursions, rafting and private boating at Rocky Island is greatly encouraged, as long as recreational user fees are being collected for the park facilities and maintenance of Apostle Islands National Lakeshore.
