The Barlow Planetarium was the result of a planned renovation of the University of Wisconsin-Fox Valley science and admin facilities in the 1990s, including a plan to replace its old planetarium. One of the biggest donations came from the businessman F. John Barlow, hence the newly built planetarium on March 20, 1998 was named after him. Its launching program was entitled ?Through the Eyes of Hubble?, a presentation that showed the details of the Hubble Space Telescope?s mission and early operations.

The planetarium can seat 98 people inside its 48 feet projection dome including 4 spots for wheelchair admission. Since its creation, the Barlow Planetarium continues to be a top-notch facility with its 3D shows, large and realistic special effects and its clear THX surround sound. Each seat contains keypads that allow visitors to participate during presentations.
