Outdoor activities that visitors may enjoy at the Hartman Creek State Park include kayaking and canoeing, off-road biking, hiking, and horseback riding as well as fishing and wildlife viewing. The park is open all year long and offers more than 1,400 acres to explore. Its landscape is divided into two different habitats: central sand hills and lush forests.

Established in 1966, the park welcomes both day visitors and campers, offering four separate picnic areas for them to choose from. All picnic areas come with their own source of potable water, ample parking space, grills, and benches and picnic tables. The one at Whispering Pines also offer restrooms with flush toilets. Vault toilets, on the other hand, are available at the picnic areas in Allen Lak and the south and east side of Hartman Lake.
