The Appleton Artists Guild set out to provide educational opportunities for local artists in 1960. The first gallery was on Morrison Street in 1972.

The mission of the museum is to promote, teach and nourish the creation and appreciation of the visual arts. The Museum fulfills this mission by promoting, teaching and nourishing the creation and appreciation of the visual arts.
