Buffalo Bill Historical Center, one of the best-kept secrets in the West, is a complex of five internationally acclaimed museums and a research library, exploring the rich history of the American West.

Over 200, 000 square feet in size, the center houses the Whitney Gallery of Western Art where you can view works by Remington, Russell and Bierstadt. You can also visit the Plains Indian Museum and see a Nez Perce tipi as well as art and artifacts of the Crow and other Northern Plains peoples. The Cody Firearms Museum showcases a gun collection and its 400-year evolvement. Walk the halls of the Buffalo Bill Museum and chronicle the life of Colonel Cody and his Wild West Show. Visitors can visit the exhibits at the Draper Museum of Natural History and explore the diversity of the Greater Yellowstone region.

The Buffalo Bill Historical Center may not be the American Museum of Natural History nor the Louvre of Paris, but it boasts a Western collection few museums can claim. The late author James Michener once called the Buffalo Bill Historical Center ?The Smithsonian of the West,? and with good reason.
