When Henry Wells was accused for burning the authentic Pickens County Courthouse in 1876, the people in Carrollton began noticing a bizarre sight etched in one of the windows of the building. The locals said that Well?s faced being visible in one of the glass windows is his curse for being convicted.
According to Carrollton residents, when Wells peered out in the windows, a lightning unexpectedly strike and then his terrified face became permanent. Two months after the incident, he died while trying to escape the prison.
From afar, the window glass looks clear but as someone goes nearer to the three-storey house, the distorted face of a man gives terrifying creeps. On 2008, Well?s remembrance turned 130 years. And though the people did not even bother to celebrate its anniversary, the Pickens County Courthouse stood the test of time and even received restorations from time to time.
