Established in 1902 is the Mobile Public Library located in the city of Mobile, Alabama. The site is a public library system funded by the Mobile County and the city of Saraland.
The Mobile Public Library traces its roots back to the 1850s when the Franklin Society started a subscription organization. It was initially housed in an antebellum building, but with the increased public demand, it was given a new building through city funding and donations from Eli H. Bernheim of New York City. It also established the Davis Avenue Branch due to segregation in 1931.
Today, the Mobile Public Library continues to serve the people of Mobile County, Alabama. It has various services available, including the bookmobile which operates 3 days a week at different stops across the county.
