The Mount Zion AME Zion Church is a historic church in Montgomery, Alabama. Also known as the Mount Zion African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church or the Mount Zion AME Zion Church Memorial Annex, the site is notable for its great participation in the local African American issues and concerns.
The Mount Zion AME Zion Church is best known for being the very place where the Montgomery Improvement Association was formed in 1955. The organization was responsible for the start of the Montgomery Bus Boycott, a highly significant event and move towards the cause of desegregation and discrimination. It was also included in the historic Selma to Montgomery marches that took place in 1965.
Due to its participation in the said events, the Mt. Zion AME Zion church was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.
