The Old Tavern Museum is a museum in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. It features the historic Old Tavern, a former commercial inn that was built in 1827. It is notable for being one of the best known landmarks in Tuscaloosa ever since the days when it was still the capital city of Alabama.
The Old Tavern Museum?s building was originally built to serve as an inn by owner and innkeeper William Dunton. It was a really well known landmark, where important individuals gathered and stayed. It even served as a temporary home of Governor John Gayle.
Of course, after its heydays of being a tavern frequented by many important figures, including politicians, it also served as a residential building. After that, it was transformed into a museum by the Tuscaloosa County Preservation Society. It now offers visitors a glimpse of an early 1800s inn.
