The Shorter Cemetery is a historic family cemetery in Eufaula, Alabama. It was built for the prominent Shorter family in a site that used to be just a stone?s throw away from their old family home.
The Shorter Cemetery is also where Alabama Civil War governor John Gill Shorter was buried. This is also where his father, General Reuben Clark Shorter, a famous Indian fighter, was interred. It is believed that the site was created before 1840, as the oldest grave dates back to around this year.
The Shorter Cemetery has always served as a ?romantic and lovely spot? in Eufaula, with its brick walls and wrought iron fence. However, the site is being threatened by deterioration and vandalism, among other things.
