Also commonly known as the St. John?s-In-The-Prairie, the St. John?s Episcopal Church is a historic church in Forkland, Alabama. It was built in 1859 after the designs of the well known architect Richard Upjohn.
The St. John?s Episcopal Church was known as the St. John?s-In-The-Prairie because it was initially organized ?in the prairie? of the Black Belt, located in the south of Greensboro. The congregation was started by the pioneer missionary to the old Southwest, Caleb Ives, in 1834, and was eventually credited to a parish status by 1838. Its first rector was Rev. John Avery. The church was moved to its current location in 1878.
The St. John?s Episcopal Church is a part of the National Register of Historic Places.
