The State Street AME Zion Church is a historic Methodist church located in Mobile, Alabama. It is an African American church and is the oldest documented Methodist church structure in the state of Alabama.
The congregation was actually founded in 1829 as the African Church of the City of Mobile. It was established as a mission of the Methodist Episcopal South and is one of the two African American Methodist churches that were built in the city before the American Civil War. The current structure was built in 1854 after the first one burned down. It is also noted as one of the most successful churches in Alabama.
The State Street AME Zion Church became a part of the National Register of Historic Places in 1978 and got listed on the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage in 1977.
