The Van Antwerp Building is a rather historic high-rise building in Mobile, Alabama. It was built in 1907, 11 stories high. It was the first skyscraper in the city, as well as the first reinforced concrete skyscraper in the entire state of Alabama and the Southeastern region of the United States.
The Van Antwerp Building was designed by the locally prominent architect George Bigelow Rogers. It was built for Garet Van Antwerp, who was a wealthy druggist. He had the structure built so it could house his pharmacy and drug store, which operated until the 1960s. His initials are also contained in a large cartouche in the northeast corner of the building.
The Van Antwerp Building may not have been included in any historic registries, but it is still one of Mobile?s well known landmarks.
