The Chilkoot Trail and Dyea Site is a historic area in the state of Alaska for its connection with the region?s mining boom. The old town of Dyea used to be a mining town near Skagway, Alaska, and the Chilkoot Trail is the road that takes people to the Klondike and Upper Yukon valleys, where mining became the biggest thing for some years during the last years of the 1800s.
When the Klondike gold rush died down in the early 20th century, the town of Dyea was abandoned. Most buildings were burned, moved, or torn down. However, there are still a number of remains and ruins that could be found on the site today.
The Chilkoot and Dyea Site were declared as a National Historic Landmark in a single listing in 1978.
