The Katmai National Park and Preserve is a national park in the state of Alaska that is also about the size of Wales. It measures more than 7000 square meters, most of which are designated wilderness areas.
Named after Mount Katmai, a stratovolcano located inside the park, the Katmai National Park and Preserve is also best known for its brown bears and the Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes. Folks can go hiking, camping, ski, fishing, kayaking, and backpacking on the site, as well as go to tours. Visitors can also find 14 active volcanoes in the area, as well as salmon fishes, and numerous archaeological sites.
Established in 1918, the Katmai National Park and Preserve is also home to the National Historic Landmark the Brooks River Archaeological District.
