The beautiful Arizona sun provides an excellent backdrop to its reddish capitol building. This is why the Arizona State Capitol is one of the most recognizable landmarks in the city of Phoenix, Arizona.
The Arizona Capitol Museum is the previous seat of Arizona state government. It formerly housed the executive offices of the Governors, as well as the chambers of the Arizona State Legislature. The offices of the Arizona government have moved to the adjacent buildings, turning the capitol area into a capitol complex.
The old Arizona State Capitol was finished in 1900 using local materials such as granite, malapai and Arizona copper (for the dome). This Classic Revival museum houses several collections pertaining to the history and culture of Arizona. The museum was inducted into the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.
