Located in the foot of South Mountain Park, stands the infamous Mystery Castle, built by Boyce Luther Gulley in the 130s. According to sources, Gulley made it for her daughter, Mary Lou Gulley, whom he has left behind, along with his wife, when he was diagnosed of tuberculosis.

The Mystery Castle is actually made out of a wide range of different, inexpensive, and salvaged materials from everywhere. It used telephone poles, rail tracks, adobe, stone, and some automobile parts. Some areas inside are quite unfinished, though, but it has 18 rooms, a chapel, dungeon, and a cantina.

The Mystery Castle has been open for tours since the late 1940s. Until Mary Lou?s passing in 2010, she used to give tours herself. Today, people believe that the state of Arizona will take charge of the property, as it has already become a part of the Phoenix Points of Pride list.
