McClard?s BBQ Restaurant is one of the most popular landmark restaurants in Arkansas. It was established in 1928 as ?Westside Bar-B-Que? by Alex and Gladys McClard after getting a barbecue sauce recipe as payment from a penniless tourist after a 2-month stay at their inn. The barbecue house found success in selling barbecued goat and the couple decided to move the restaurant to a white stucco building along Albert Pike in 1942, its current location. They also changed the name to McClard?s.
The family business continued to flourish through the years and has received various recognitions from food shows, food magazines and from some of its famous patrons like Bill Clinton. Goat meat has long been removed from their menu and has been replaced by beef and pork. Some of their best seller aside from barbecue is their hand-made tamale spread.
