The Berkeley Marina is located at the Eastshore Freeway of San Francisco Bay. It is the westernmost part of the city of Berkeley, California. It was originally built as Berkeley Yacht Harbor in 1930?s. The term ?Berkeley Marina? is technically referring only to the main city but the public has used the term to refer to the surrounding area of the city. Every April, people celebrate Berkeley Bay Festival. There are food stalls, music fest, environmental education, and exhibits of eco-friendly products.
Within the vicinity of Berkeley Marina are establishments such as restaurants and hotel. There is also a yacht club where different models of yachts are docked. The surrounding area of Marina has cycling and jogging path as well. The popular Adventure Playground opens during weekend. It was started in 1979 as unique outdoor facility for children. Parents can drop off their children in Adventure Playground for maximum of three hours. Children can actually play safely with sands and soils, water, woods, building blocks, and other creative materials that are typically off hands from kids.
Berkeley Marina also features Shorebird Nature Center. It mainly offers programs on environment conservation. It also showcases a number of Strawbale buildings, several environment friendly structures that show the visitors how they can maximize their resources in home and in their businesses without generating too much waste.
Inside the center, there is a Bay Aquarium which features different species of fish, birds, and other life exhibits that are thriving in Berkeley Marina. Visitors can also join Shoreline Clean-ups which are regularly held year round.
