The Candlestick Point State Recreation Area is a state park and protected area in San Francisco, California. It is best noted for being the state?s very first urban recreation area.
Established in 1977, the Candlestick Point State Recreation Area is a 170-acre park situated in a landfilled area. It was originally intended to serve as a shipyard for the United States Navy for the World War II, but was later abandoned after the war. It then became an unauthorized garbage dump until the state purchased the lot and turned it into a park.
Still considered as a major recreation area in the city, the Candlestick Point State Recreation Area is also noted for the stunning views of the bay that can be accessed in the site.
