The Planes of Fame Air Museum was founded by Edward T. Maloney, an aviation enthusiast since his childhood days. Maloney was also responsible for opening the first aviation museum, The Air Museum in California in 1957 until the aircrafts were moved to its present location. From 10 aircrafts, the collections grew up to 150 aircrafts, with 50 of them are flyable. According to historical records, Maloney and his volunteers worked around the clock to restore and collect the static aircrafts that were almost destroyed or damaged and flying aircraft for preservation.

One of the main attractions within the museum is the Chino Facility. Between 2004 and 2008, the facility underwent expansions to construct two new hangars, a gift shop, new offices, a library, and Hands-ON Aviation Youth Educational Center. Another reason why it was expanded was to house jets and other aircraft that were used during the Korean War, the Cold War, and Vietnam War. In 2009, another hangar was added to keep a rare aircraft, called the Lockheed P-38 Lightning, and store other memorabilia.

The museum was also dubbed as the ?living history? museum because it not only stores static aircrafts, but it also keeps flying aircrafts. Through outside funds and donations, the many rare war aircrafts are still operable and in good flying condition. These warbirds are flown regularly for public viewing. They were also used for airshows, military base open houses, and for television programs and motion picture features.

Other known features of the Planes of Fame Air Museum are the military vehicles collection, managed by the Military Vehicle Corps. Visitors will have a glimpse of the military vehicles displays that were used during World War II.

Overall, the Planes of Fame Air Museum seeks to protect the aviation history, honor the aviation pioneers and veterans, motivates people to take aviation and provide education and awareness about aviation and aircrafts to the community.
