The only standing Chautauqua west of the Mississippi River that is still operation since the 1920s can be found in Boulder, Colorado ? the Colorado Chautauqua.

Established in 1898, this Chautauqua survived historic events, economic changes and even the decline in the Chautauqua movement that went in vogue during the 1920s. This district is notable for being one of the few operational Chautauqua in the US and unique for operating year-round.

This 40-acre site features historic and fully functional buildings such as the 1898 Chautauqua auditorium, dining hall, academic hall, community house, missions house, and 98 cottages established between 1899 and 1954. Several notable people have given lectures here, such as Jesse Jackson, Al Gore, and Hunter S. Thompson. The site was declared a National Historical Landmark on February 10, 2006.
