The maritime museum of Mystic Seaport in Connecticut prides itself for its outstanding collection of maritime artifacts. One of the museum?s famous ?residents? is the historic Charles W. Morgan ship.

Charles W. Morgan is a 19th century wooden whaleship that is considered to be the world?s oldest surviving merchant vessel. Its longevity is a testament to the craftsmanship of the shipbuilders during its time. Ships of this kind brave the cold and dangerous oceans to harvest blubber for whale oil, which was an important merchandise during the 19th and early 20th century. Aside from being the ?mother ship? of the whaling fleet, the Morgan also served as onboard factory for processing blubber and storage for the extracted whale oil. Because of its historic significance, Charles W. Morgan was declared a National Historic Landmark on November 13, 1966. It is currently undergoing repairs to bring it back to its seaworthy glory.
