The land where the Elizabeth Park Rose Gardens can be found was willed to Hartford city by Charles Pond. He is the one who requested that it be used as a horticultural park and that he named it after his wife whose name is Elizabeth. It is even included in the listing of the National Register of Historic Places.

The entire park is made up of 102 acres and it is where you can find a total of 15,000 plants along with 800 various types of roses. Even in the winter season, the entire park is open for those who want to go ice skating. They even hold a regular lecture series of gardening especially in taking care of roses.
