Established in 1975, the Rolnick Observatory is a non-profit center open to the public during Wednesday & Thursday evenings. The observatory is located at the city?s highest point, where a NIKE radar tower used to stand. One of the most interesting sights at the observatory is the Newtonian telescope. And when the moon is hidden, the observatory uses their compact Obsession telescope, which is barely two feet in length, and the largest of its kind in Connecticut that?s available to the public.

Members of the Westport Astronomical Society regularly meet at the observatory?s Fred Bump Educational Center every 3rd Tuesday of the month. As for other visitors, they can relax after braving Connecticut?s cool winds while stargazing by visiting the smaller building at the site, which is simply known as the ?warm room?.
