Casa Marina is a luxurious resort built in 1920. It was the idea of Henry Flagler, an American railroad tycoon, to create it for the intention of accommodating well-off customers of the Flagler?s Overseas Railroad. The resort is located south of Key West, and is listed as a Historical Landmark by the National Register of Historic Places. It features a 1,100-foot-long beach, exclusive only to Casa Marina customers.
Since it?s opening in 1920, Casa Marina has been a favorite resort of many businessmen and celebrities. During the Great Depression in 1932, the resort was closed and was only opened for a few months each winter and was later rented to the US Navy during the Second World War.
The resort was reopened after undergoing a complete renovation in 1978. Another renovation which cost $42 million was done in 2007. Today, the resort is still in operation and also accommodates business meetings, weddings, and other big events.
