Also known as the Dade Battlefield Historic Memorial, the Dade Battlefield Historic State Park is the site of the Dade Massacre, during the Second Seminole War which took place in 1835 and took more than 100 soldiers? lives, including Major Francis L. Dade?s.

The Dade Battlefield Historic State Park is an 80 acre park, with half of the area being pine flatwoods and one live oak hammock. It offers a wide array of various activities, including picnicking and wildlife viewing. Animals like gopher tortoises, songbirds, hawks, indigo snakes, and woodpeckers naturally live on site. A playground is also available for use, as well as a recreation hall and some nature trails.

Declared as a National Historic Landmark in 1973, the Dade Battlefield Historic State Park can be a great stop while at Sumter County.
