The Highlands Hammock State Park is one of the state of Florida?s oldest state parks. Opened to the public in 1931 through the effort of local citizens, the Highlands Hammock State Park was further developed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the years just prior the start of the Second World War.
Many of the current facilities are improvements and continuations of the major projects conducted by the Civilian Conservation Corps. Today?s visitors can now enjoy scenic drives through a 3 mile loop, hiking the nine park trails, and even ride through the 11 mile equestrian day trail.
A recreation hall and picnic pavilions are available for rental at the park. A museum featuring the history of the Highlands Hammock State Park is also open.
