Originally referred to as Hog Island, Honeymoon Island State Park started to become a known destination after developers built fifty palm thatched bungalows designed for use by honeymooners
Accessible today through the Dunedin Causeway in Dunedin, Florida, the Honeymoon Island State Park feature white sand beaches, tidal flats, and mangrove forests. Swimming, fishing, and snorkeling are some of the favorite activities of park visitors in this area. Shelling is also a very productive activity in these shores as the gulf currents are directed towards the area, depositing a lot of shells in the process.
Other amenities in the park include showers, a gift shop, and a snack bar located on the west side of the beach area on State Road 586.
