The Southwest Florida Museum of History is a local history museum in Fort Myers, Florida. It focuses on the heritage and history of the area dating back to the 800 BC to the present.
The beginnings of the Southwest Florida Museum can be to the rescuing of the town?s historic train depot which was left alone when the railroad closed down and sold its track and warehouse. The building was left to disintegrate, despite having a beautiful library built in the same lot. The depot was salvaged in 1975 and designed to house a local museum that was completed by 1982.
Today, the Southwest Florida Museum of History houses various displays about the area?s history, ranging back to the Paleo Indians to the present.
