Anniston Star - Alabama wants taxes collected for online purchases

Why is everything so backwards here?

I believe every state in the Union has requested this but has yet to accomplish passing the votes.

Online sales tax!! That's insane!

The government would probably require the business to report the sales to then be taxed. The businesses would either charge you for the tax or have to pay it themselves so they would definitely add the tax at purchase.

I'm pretty sure quite a few states require you to report online purchases and pay tax on them. Not just Alabama. I'm not sure how they plan to enforce it though.
