Art Collecting

Who collects art?

What type, how did you get started and how do you usually find your art.

I collect "Tabora" Hawaiian art. Last time I went into his studio, I bought three pieces of art, but wanted personalized sayings on the back of the canvas. He drove in from home to fulfill my wishes. Great guy!

Yes that counts, very cool. I had a friend whose mother collected roosters.

If I had more money, I would collect more Shona sculptures.
This little one below is all I could afford.

I would also collect more of Mark Garland's stuff. The first Loon is hanging on our wall, the next two are on my wish list and the last one is for scale.

Yah. There's an annual week long exhibition in a waterfront park in my town http://www.zimart.ca/beaconfield.html. They fill the place up with sculptures and have visiting artists from Zimbabwe working on new ones there. Those sculptors are really nice guys and it's amazing to watch a piece of rock be transformed into something beatiful using only hand tools and elbow grease.

This is one of the sculptors who was there a couple of years ago.
