I HAD two, first a Vanagon, then later a late model (predates the Vanagon). It was lowered front and rear. Once I spotted a late model at an In-and-out burger with porsche wheels on it and 4 wheel disc brakes. I started looking under/around it and was shocked at what I saw. I waited for the owner to come out, turns out he was a Porsche mechanic, and he has slipped a 3.4 porsche engine/trans in it! The install was super clean. He said he used it to haul his speed boat, and it would freak people out when he would pass them on the freeway at 80, towing a boat! I got to hear him pull onto the freeway onramp and he blasted off up to about 90, just amazing. The ultimate sleeper!!!
A good friend of mine currently owns 2. I believe the newer one is a 72 and the older one is a split windshield, no engine, no interior in his garage being worked on little by little. I'll see if he is willing to join and post some pics!

That would be cool. I like the splitties but I don't think I would ever drive one after I had to fix it, I'm too afraid something would happen to it. But one day I would like to get one.
