Help on Jeep tire size

06 TJ with a 3" lift. Tires to come but not sure how big still need to drive it back and forth to work all interstate what's a decent size without paying a fortune for gas?

Find a gearing chart. That is where you will find your answers. Find the tires you want and match them to the gearing towards best fuel milage rather than power.

I wouldn't suggest anything bigger than a 33" unless you want to pay to play

I have 285/75/16's on my 06 rubi and I get about 14mpg on a great day. Anything over a 32-33'' is gonna kill you. I got like 17 consistantly with the stock 31''. If the 33's didn't look so damn cool I'd go back to 31's Lol

I agree with what they said - over 33's is going to kill your mileage. Even 32's is going to drop you. I'd also recommend 31's - but it all depends on if you value the "cool" factor more than the "practical" factor.

I have 32's on my XJ with a 4" lift, and my next set will most likely be 31's. It's my DD, so I value the practical thing more. When I take it offroad, I just air-down and use my M/T sidewalls for some extra tread on the dirt.

I used to have an 06 Unlimited. no lift. ran 33x9.50/15's on the OE 15x8 Alloys. no rubbing. tight fit but looked awesome. I went with the BFG All Terrains. I think the reason I could run 33's without a lift is that I only went with 9.50 width. they were awesome in the rain and snow too.


btw....mine was a 6sp. the 33's did NOT 'kill my gas mileage'. I couldn't have the speedo recalibrated because if was a 6sp, so I adjusted for the larger diameter and revs when I calculated my MPG's. check 'tirerack.com' for tire sizes and dimensions. for instance, if there is a 10% difference in the number of revs from your OE tire to the new one, then the number of miles traveled will be off 10% as well. factor that in and you should be fine. while the larger tires do weigh a bit more, your MPG's shouldn't suffer that much, if at all.

For commuting I would stay as small as possible. 31's would look just fine. You can get some aggressive looking 31's and not kill your mpg. You also need to think about how wide your tires are. I find 10.50in wide is a nice compromise between good looks and mpgs.

You can fit 31x1050 on a tj with no lift.

Yes you can, but an agresive looking 31 by 10.50 tire will still look "cool" while not killing the MPG and still having plenty of off road capability.

I'm running 33's on my 03 Rubicon. Best is to know what gearing you have. I run the Maxxis Bighorns and they are pretty good on the highway driving.
