Synthetic oil

I have a car that had synthetic oil in it when I bought it. I don't know how long the previous owner used synthetic. The car has 200,000 plus miles. I really don't care for synthetic. Would it hurt to change to regular oil now?

As long as you dump all the synthetic and change the filter, you can switch at any time. How about changing to a blended oil? It gives the best of both protections possible. I myself am too cheap to run synthetic. I just change oil after 5,000 miles on my vehicles.

Good call on switching to normal. A car with 200k generally shouldn't be running synthetic, unless you're 100% that it's run synthetic its entire life. Synthetic is much thinner, and, while it helps your motor run easier, it can also cause more leaks if switched from normal to synthetic.

Good luck!

I switched to full synthetic. Better than conventional any way you look at it.
