Need a social circle for a twenty something

So I am in the Coast Guard, so I am in and out of the area a lot. I only have a couple friends that are not in the Coast Guard, but are both really busy with grad school. I do play rugby for the Mystics, but didnt really make friends with any of them before I had to leave for this last patrol.

So what is the best place to meet people here. This is my first big city, I lived in a town of 10,000 before this. I am 24 and live in the Northend.

I do love bars, but it seems that my age crowded only hangs out at clubs/dance bars, which I am not into.

Now it is cold and snow is coming, and I am afriad that I might just hide in my Heated apartment with my xbox...

I am just looking for some people to with.

BSSC (Boston Ski and Sports Club) does some cool get-togethers. Haven't done anything with them for a while, now though. But there's a pretty big age range, 21+.
