I've looked all over, have to know someone who has some land or go to the southern tier. Rausch Creek is probably the closest public ORV park but it's a good 4-5 hrs from here .
I am a biologist...and I still agree with you! I like unspoiled parks, but I also want to crawl some bluffs in my Jeep as well. There are millions of acres of land in NYS, cant we drive on some of it?
I was recently in allegeny state park and really am confused by this no wheelinguse the trail situation. They make provisions in the park for people on horseback, snowmobiles, hunters, campers who trash the bathrooms and cambins and leave trash everywhere. Yet they refuse to let offroaders trails anywhere in the park. Its ridiculous.
We have the same problem up here in the Adirondacks. Everyone fighting over the train corridors. Summer people want them for hiking and biking. Winter people want them for snowshoeing and snowmobiling (not that I am complaining), but ATVs, trucks, forget about it. A lot of woods around here that are private owned. If you know someone who owns some, sometimes they are nice and let people use the trails for mudding.
I lived in Maryland for 8 years before moving to Buffalo. There wasn't much in Maryland either unless you went all the way to the Western edge of the state; a 3 hour drive!
