These military/clergy conflicts would continue throughout the colonial days.

The presidio Santa Barbara would be a palisade until 1784 when the comandante would be replaced by Lt. Goicoechea. He would summit drawings for approval and began construction. This would later be an issue that came up later as a response to the 15 points that Goicoechea sent to he governor, that he used natives and under paid and mistreated them. He responded hat they were paid handsomely and in most cases did not want to return to the mission, preferring instead, the treatment that he and his soldados gave them.

Goicoechea's father, Juan, also had constructed a presidio in Sonora.

C'mon, gimme a break. I've got to thoroughly read everything I can find on Rivera's life and about soldados de cuera. Then, I have to create believable ancillary characters, as well as following the real historical timeline!!!

So far, I've got 12,000 words done and he's only at San Blas preparing to sail to Loreto in 1742. He dies in 1781 so I've got a whole lot to fill in.
